Creditor

An individual or entity to whom the deceased person owed money or had an outstanding obligation at the time of death. During probate, creditors have a specific period (usually a few months) to file claims against the estate for debts owed. Valid creditor claims must be paid from the estate before assets can be distributed to beneficiaries.
